Urban Development Revitalizing the Whole of Kyoto – Kyoto Station West Area.
The Kyoto Station West Area is a region centered around the area bounded by Karasuma Street to the east, Nishioji Street to the west, Gojo Street to the north, and the JR Kyoto Line to the south. It encompasses attractions such as Umekoji Park, Kyoto Aquarium, Kyoto Railway Museum, and the Kyoto Central Wholesale Market, which was Japan’s first central wholesale market. Furthermore, it includes Kyoto Research Park, temples like Nishi Hongan-ji and Higashi Hongan-ji, local shopping streets, and universities. In this attractive area where diverse local resources converge, the “Kyoto Station West Area Revitalization Future Plan” was formulated in 2015. In the future, a “lively zone” is planned to be created, including the completed Hotel Emion Kyoto around the Kyoto Central Wholesale Market, further increasing the momentum for revitalization. Urban development that guides the leap of Kyoto as a whole is progressing as Kyoto’s new face.
